Shattered, A Narrative Art Exhibit.
Stage 2 And 3
The exhibition that my classmates along with I created for this exhibition was a representation of the Meow Wolf art museum in Santa Fe new mexico. Like Meow Wolf, are exhibition was math related art that had a message to it. In the first out of the three rooms, we built a set representing Camoens house with a couch computer Etc. In the second room we collected old car parts to create a car crash seen along with a sound effect of a heart rate monster. Finally in the third room which in my opinion was our best work, we had a mirror with messages including what is truth and a large variety of other messages. We also set up a sound systems with wisper recordings to create an Erie mysterious effect.
My main role in the project was to help set up the lighting and sound systems in our exhibition. My committee was the tech group responsible for planing how to set up the wiring lighting, speakers and any other electronic systems for the exhibition. In the committee, I was responsible for planning how we were going to set up the lights and the best place to put them. Overall I feel like I was a helpful contributor in the process and was defiantly part of why we finished the exhibition on time along with everyone else.
Stage 3: Reflection
Going to Meow Wolf was probably the biggest part of why our exhibition was so successful. While at Meow Wolf we got to experience the structure of mathematical art and how it was created to present a story that an individual can try to solve. In one of the rooms there was an old car that was built into the surrounding structure. This is what sparked our idea to create a car crash seen for our exhibition. Another idea that we took back from Meow Wolf was the idea to have sound recordings in our exhibition. When we were at Meow Wolf there were endless variety of interesting sounds and music coming from all around the building. As a result we had music and sound in our exhibition.
In the last month of the project I have learned valuable and interesting skills. One of the skills I already new about but improved on and now understand more would be creativity. For example, setting up the speakers in the best places, making sure the lights were in places where they would look the best took a tremendous amount of creativity. That being said, I really had to push myself to think creatively thus gaining knowledge in my ability to think and come up with well though out ideas. Finally I improved on my perseverance skills. Throughout the project, I defiantly felt skeptical especially towards the end weather we would be able to pull it of. I felt like I as well as everyone else showed amazing perseverance and grit to complete a well built exhibition leaving visitors impressed.
In this project I felt like I did exceptionally well but could indeed push to do better. For example, I have always been the type to sit back and let the group do all the work, however I really felt an improvement in my contribution to my group ethic in this project. I defiantly wouldn't say I was a leader in my group but I was defiantly was a big help to everyone. The only thing I could have done a little better at would be communication. A few times I kind of lost track of what we were doing but other than that I pushed myself to do my best. Overall I would say I pushed myself as hard as I can with room to push harder.
I would say I took away many math and humanities skills from this project. I thing the main math skill I took away from the project would be using geometry to make art. Before the project, I did not have the slightest idea that using math to create art was even a thing. Now I now, geometric and other types of math can create some of the coolest and most unique art pieces I have ever seen. In terms of humanities skills, I took away a powerful mindset of humans and how we function. In humanities, we did a unit looking into questions like, How do we know what we know?, am I awake?, what is reality?, etc. These question really left me wondering more about the world and basically what we are.
This project drastic change of my view on project based learning. last year we did some big projects like the documentary project in science and the mask project which definitely gave me an idea of project based learning. However those projects were nothing compared to the time and space exhibition. Although I did not think we were going to do a project this big I was left surprised in a good way. Even though It was a hard and stressful push to do this project, it was well worth it for the amazing outcome. Overall, this changed myself and my view on project based learning in a great way leaving me more likely to recomend Animas to anyone.
